Retaining a lawyer is a big decision! Ask around before signing that retainer agreement! If you know people who have been involved in a similar legal matter, ask them if they have a recommendation – maybe they’d recommend their attorney or even the opposing attorney. Ask whom they have heard good things about. Ask whom they DON’T recommend and whom they have heard bad things about. Ask as many people as possible. You’re bound to start hearing the same names over and over. If you know attorneys, ask them for recommendations. Oftentimes attorneys have a good idea of the areas where other attorneys excel and can point you in the right direction. Treat the retention of your attorney as the big decision it is. You will be glad you did!
